UK trust in legacy media is now the lowest of 28 major countries with only 31% of Brits trusting traditional outlets, according to a new report by the Henry Jackson Society. No surprise given the latest set of scandals within the BBC…
According to the report young Brits are getting their news on X (38%), Facebook (28%), and Instagram (10%. One in five trusts social media firms more than mainstream media to regulate disinformation. Starmer has been caught out a few times by ‘community notes’ on X…
The report also finds that 52% of UK adults rely on social media for news (up from 47% in 2023). Executive Director of the Henry Jackson Society Alan Mendoza said:
“When people stop trusting the established media, they don’t stop consuming news – they just turn to different sources. Disinformation loves a vacuum and the mainstream press needs to consider its culpability in creating one through some of its own actions in recent years.”
Mendoza has himself defected to Reform this morning. Farage said: “I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to shape our policy platform in the months and years ahead.”
Research from earlier in the year shows that Brits are increasingly following individual journalists whose reporting they trust over large institutions. Sign up here to join the new media in Britain…
