Health regulator the Care Quality Commission has launched a new “Step Into Leadership” scheme to help civil servants move up the ladder. Naturally, it’s only open to ethnic minorities and disabled staff…
The nine-month programme offers “interactive workshops, peer coaching groups, and a business-focused challenge”. Last year, 46% of the first cohort ended up with a promotion. Eligibility for the career-changing scheme is limited to “colleagues at grades E3, A, B, C and D from ethnic minority backgrounds and/or colleagues with a disability.” Nadiya Rahman, the CQC’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Manager, described it as:
“more than a development programme; it’s a catalyst for meaningful change… Supporting career development for disabled colleagues and colleagues from an ethnic minority background will help to build a leadership team that truly reflects the talented diversity of our organisation and the communities we serve.”
