Trump Reportedly Lobbying Paramount To Revive ’90s Action Franchise ‘Rush Hour’

President Donald Trump is reportedly making movies great again by bringing back the classic hit “Rush Hour.”

Trump may be teaming up with longtime friend and Paramount owner, Larry Ellison, in an effort to revive the beloved ’90s franchise, according to a Sunday report from Semafor. Ellison is close to gaining control of the Warner legacy, and a source familiar told Semafor the president has personally pushed Ellison to bring the beloved film series back to life.

The potential new installment would fit neatly within Trump’s fondness for action films from the late 1980s through the 1990s. According to Semafor, it could also offer a comfortable space for him politically, as stars Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan have never publicly spoken out against him.

After Trump’s election in 2016, Jackie Chan said: “Just give him a chance to try to change America and change the world. He’s a businessman… I think he knows how to handle these types of things.”

Tucker dodged questions about his feelings about Trump in a 2018 interview with Piers Morgan saying he “hopes he does good.”

“I want him to be successful, I want him to do the right thing,” Tucker said at the time, according to Semafor.

“Rush Hour” left a lasting mark on pop culture, helping redefine the buddy-cop genre with its perfect blend of action, comedy and unmatched chemistry between Chan and Tucker. The film introduced Chan’s Hong Kong–style martial arts to a new generation of American audiences and turned numerous one-liners and comedic moments into pop-culture staples. Its success not only cemented both stars as global icons, but also paved the way for future cross-cultural action comedies that followed its winning formula. The original 1998 film was a breakout hit, but the film series fizzled out with the third installment of the movie by 2007. Trump could very well be the driving force that reignites another “Rush Hour” success story.
