Skills minister Jacqui Smith hit the morning round to shore up the boss after a slew of Sunday stories speculating on his replacement. Think tank Labour Together – Morgan McSweeney’s old outfit responsible for the entire Starmer project – is said to be canvassing party members on eight candidates to replace the PM. Smith insisted none of this destabilised him, and you can tell that because he’s off to McLaren HQ today to congratulate them on their F1 win and talk up apprenticeships. She told Times Radio:
“He’s not being destabilised by that. As I say, today he’s off to see young people uh uh and their apprenticeships and the highly successful British company McLaren. And that’s what he’ll be focusing on and it’s what I’m focusing on as well.”
Convincing…
