If anything, this has to be a bit of a wake-up call for Notre Dame realizing America, well, DOESN’T LIKE THEM.
Pete Bevacqua, Notre Dame‘s athletic director, has drawn widespread criticism beyond South Bend for his handling of the fallout after the Fighting Irish were excluded from the College Football Playoff. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has now joined the chorus of detractors.
During Tuesday’s news conference, Bevacqua doubled down on his lashing of the ACC, accusing the conference of orchestrating a social media campaign designed to boost Miami into the College Football Playoff at the expense of the Fighting Irish.
“What we were really surprised by and disappointed was how the ACC conference really went on social media in my opinion attacking our football program,” said Bevacqua, per OutKick.
While questioning the CFP selection process, Bevacqua also revealed that the Fighting Irish’s relationship with the ACC has become strained in the wake of the playoff snub, with tensions building over the past two weeks. Yormark caught whiff of this, and my man wasn’t playing this tomfoolery at all.
Speaking in Las Vegas at an IAF event Tuesday night, Yormark kept it real regarding how he feels about Bevacqua.
“I’m a little outspoken about it, but I don’t like how Notre Dame has reacted to it. I think Pete, his behavior to it has been egregious. It’s been egregious going after Jim Phillips (ACC Commissioner) when they saved Notre Dame during COVID. We all knew, it was all transparent, Hunter (Yurachek) was very transparent about it.
“As Notre Dame and Miami got closer together, head-to-head would be a factor. Ok, BYU lost, they became closer together and head-to-head made a difference in that decision. So, I think he’s totally out of bounds in his approach, and if he was in the room, I’d tell him the same thing.”
