The parents of a New Jersey teen who allegedly mowed down and killed two female classmates called police to report concerns about their son before the incident, according to audio obtained by NJ.com.
Jeffrey and Judith Battiloro contacted the Garwood Police Department (GPD) four times in August regarding their 17-year-old son Vincent, NJ.com, reported, noting they obtained the calls via a public records request. The couple is divorced.
Battiloro reportedly called the GPD using a non-emergency line on Aug. 9 and asked for an officer to come to the residence. “I wanna just speak to him and go over a couple juvenile issues that are going on with my son right now and just get some — advice,” he said, according to the audio.
On another occasion, Battiloro told police his teenage son allegedly sprayed him in the face with mace. “He sprayed me in the face with mace. He took my car,” he claimed on Aug. 24.
Judith also called the GPD, according to the audio. On Aug. 26, she told police she was unable to reach her son via his cell phone and alleged that her ex-husband had disconnected their son’s service.
She also claimed her ex-husband had kicked their son out of his house, NJ.com reported. The teenager allegedly showed up at her home “angry” over what was going on. He was taken home “by the police,” Judith said.
On Aug. 30, Battiloro again reported a “juvenile issue” with his son to police, according to the audio. It was on this occasion that Battiloro claimed his son was “getting physical.” (RELATED: ‘All Hands On Deck’: High School Fight Leads To Death)
Ahead of an alleged hit-and-run that killed Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas, Vincent Battiloro allegedly claimed on a YouTube livestream that a girl from school was causing him legal trouble with false allegations about “child porn,” NJ.com reported on Oct. 3. YouTube later had his account taken down. The teen allegedly said he wanted “vengeance” in another livestream.
Niotis and Salas, both 17 years old, were riding an e-bike on Sept. 29 at approximately 5:30 p.m. when they were allegedly struck by a 2021 black Jeep with tinted windows. Police sources said the driver fled the scene.
Following an investigation into the incident, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said it had charged a 17-year-old boy, not identified at the time, with two counts of first-degree murder. Both girls were taken to hospitals, where they ultimately died of their injuries.
Relatives and neighbors of Maria Niotis claimed Battiloro was stalking her for months ahead of the deadly crash, according to NJ.com. Her mother reportedly called the police before the incident.
The Daily Caller contacted the Garwood Police Department for comment.
