Holocaust Survivor and Child Among the Victims in Deadly Hanukkah Attack [WATCH]

Australian authorities are continuing their investigation into a deadly terrorist attack that targeted Jewish families celebrating Hanukkah at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, leaving at least 15 people dead and more than 40 injured, as The Gateway Pundit reported.

According to reports cited by The Daily Mail, the attack occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. Sunday along Campbell Parade near the Bondi Pavilion.

Witnesses told authorities that two men exited a vehicle and opened fire on beachgoers, discharging more than 30 rounds into the crowd gathered for the Hanukkah celebration.

Officials confirmed that the victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old.

Among the victims was a 10-year-old girl identified as Mailda, according to The New York Post. A GoFundMe page established by her language teacher confirmed her identity and described the loss.

“I was Mailda’s language teacher, and I knew her as a bright, joyful, and spirited child who brought light to everyone around her. Yesterday, while celebrating Hanukkah, her young life was tragically taken. Her memory will live on in our hearts,” wrote Irina Goodhew.

Also killed in the attack was Alex Kleytman, a Holocaust survivor who authorities say died while attempting to protect his wife of 50 years.

Kleytman had survived the mass murder of Jews during World War II and later fled to Australia, where he was ultimately killed decades later during a religious celebration.

Two religious leaders were also among the dead. Authorities identified the victims as Rabbi Eli Schlanger and Rabbi Yaakov Levitan, both of whom were present at the Hanukkah gathering.

Australian officials stated that one of the gunmen was 24-year-old Naveed Sajid Akram, who was in the country on a tourist visa.

According to The Daily Mail, Akram was shot during the incident, arrested, and remains in custody while receiving medical treatment from emergency services.

The second attacker was identified as Akram’s father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram. He was also in Australia on a tourist visa and was killed at the scene, authorities confirmed.

The Gateway Pundit first reported on the attack as details emerged Sunday evening, while international media outlets continued to identify victims and suspects in the hours that followed.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the motive beyond confirming the attack targeted Jewish individuals celebrating Hanukkah.
