Wild Video Captures Moment Alleged Shoplifter Pulls Gun On Cop, Tries Shooting Him

A Walmart security worker saved a police officer’s life Thursday after an alleged shoplifter pulled a gun and tried to shoot the cop in the head.

Shane Newman, 21, now faces attempted murder charges after body camera and store surveillance footage captured the harrowing encounter at the Canton, Ohio store, Fox 8 reported.

The incident began when store security spotted Newman and 23-year-old Katarina Jeffrey leaving with unpaid merchandise. A responding officer escorted both to the loss prevention office for a search.

The officer was inside the loss prevention office with Shane Newman, 21, and Katerina Jeffrey, 23

“I have a snap phone,” Newman replied.

Newman cooperated with a pat-down and handed over a container that investigators said held illegal drugs. When Jeffrey asked if they were going to jail, the officer responded, “Not unless something crazy happens.”

Moments later, a dispatcher alerted the officer that Newman had an active warrant and was classified as “armed and dangerous.”

Store video shows Newman turning away from the camera, pulling a gun from his shoulder bag and aiming at the officer’s head. He pulled the trigger, but the weapon failed to fire.

A security employee quickly wrestled the gun away from Newman. The officer said he drew his weapon but held fire to avoid hitting the worker.

The officer admitted he missed the concealed weapon during his search.

Newman remains in Stark County jail on a $1 million bond. He faces charges including attempted murder, felonious assault on a peace officer and robbery.
