Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that diplomats from his country were participating in peace talks with U.S., Russian and European negotiators in Florida, adding that the “negotiations are constructive.”
Mr. Zelenskyy posted on X early Sunday that the negotiations must move past being “a rhetorical or political game” and that Russia continues to take action on the battlefield.
But Yuri Ushakov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s foreign affairs adviser, denied that representatives of Moscow, Kyiv and Washington were in the peace negotiations, which entered their third day on Sunday in Miami.
“At present, no one has seriously discussed this initiative, and to my knowledge it is not being prepared,” Mr. Ushakov said, according to Russian state news agencies.
The U.S. delegation, led by White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, reportedly met separately with the joint Ukrainian and European delegation, as well as with the Kremlin’s representatives.
“The discussions are proceeding constructively. They began earlier and will continue today, and will also continue tomorrow,” Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev told reporters on Saturday.
The negotiations fall under the shadow of Mr. Putin’s comments on Friday in which he claimed that Russia’s troops were advancing in Ukraine and expressed confidence Moscow will achieve its goals.
