Kevin Costner Reportedly Faces Lawsuit Related To His Movie Flop

Western Costume Leasing Company reportedly filed a lawsuit Monday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging Kevin Costner failed to pay for movie costumes.

The approximately $440,00 lawsuit accused Costner and his production banner Territory Pictures of breaching their contract, claiming they did not pay for costumes used in “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two,” according to the New York Post.

The legal documents allege that Costner and his producers “did not commit these acts out of any sincere or proper motive, but did so maliciously, oppressively and fraudulently,” the outlet reported.

The sequel did not obtain its planned theatrical release after the first film tanked at the box office.

The lawsuit claimed the defendants owe $134,256.82 in initial payments for the costumes. Western Costume Leasing Company alleged that Costner and his producers “did not pay the agreed upon rate for the costumes and failed to return the costumes undamaged,” according to the New York Post.

The outlet reported that the rental company is also requesting $150,000 in economic damages, $200,000 in lawyer’s fees, $40,000 in accrued interest on the bills and $100,000 in punitive damages.

Alleged receipts were included in the legal filing against the Hollywood icon, according to the New York Post.

Costner directed, produced and starred in “Horizon 2,” and he faced a separate lawsuit related to the film in May. It was filed by stunt performer Devyn LaBella. In a court filing, LaBella alleged she was “the victim of a violent unscripted, unscheduled rape scene” directed by Costner, the outlet reported. Costner denied the accusations, and a judge reportedly dismissed two out of 10 allegations in October.

Two more “Horizon” film sequels are slated for production, but Costner is allegedly struggling to finance the projects, according to the New York Post.
