Evangeline Lilly Reveals She Has Brain Damage After Fall

Actress Evangeline Lily revealed that she has brain damage after suffering a concussion last year.

Lilly made the announcement in an Instagram video posted Friday. In the caption Lilly said that while it is “comforting to know my cognitive decline isn’t just peri-menopause,” it is “discomforting to know what an uphill battle it will be to try to reverse the deficiencies.”

Lilly told her followers that brain scans she underwent showed that “almost every area” of her brain is “functioning at a decreased capacity.” (RELATED: Devastating Cause Of Death Of ‘Eastenders’ Star Timothy West Revealed)

“I do have brain damage from the TBI and possibly other factors going on,” said Lilly. “But now my job is to get to the bottom of that with the doctors and embark on the hard work of fixing it, which I don’t look forward to because I feel like hard work is all I do.”

However, Lilly added that the cognitive decline she has experienced since suffering her injury has enabled her to “slow down” and “have a more restful finish to my 2025.” *

“I think this was the calmest, most restful Christmas holiday that I have had, maybe since I had children,” she said.

In a May 30 Substack post, the actress announced that she suffered a head injury after she fainted at the beach and fell face first into a boulder. Lilly wrote that she has suffered from fainting spells since she was a little girl.

Lilly announced in June 2024 that she was retiring from acting. In an Instagram post, she shared a video from when she was filming the TV show “Lost” in 2006. In the video, she admitted that in ten years she hoped to be a retired actress, to have a family, to write, and to do humanitarian work.

In the caption, Lilly said that she felt “filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision.”

“Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment,” she wrote.

While she might return to Hollywood someday, Lilly wrote that for now, she is happy being away from the entertainment business.

“A new season has arrived, and I AM READY… and I AM HAPPY,” she wrote.
