Trump Speaks Of ‘Very Strong Action’ In Iran And Defines Endgame

President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that the United States would respond with “very strong action” if Iran moves forward with executing protesters.

Iran plans to execute a 26-year-old man Wednesday, marking what would be the first hanging tied to the nationwide anti-regime protests that have left more than 600 people dead. During an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil, Trump reacted to these reports.

“I haven’t heard about the hanging. If they hang ’em, you’re gonna see some things that — I don’t know what you’re — where you come from and what your thought process is, but you’ll perhaps be very happy,” Trump said. “We will take very strong action. If they do such a thing, we will take very strong action.”

When asked about the endgame, Trump said his objective was “to win.”

“The endgame is to win. I like winning. And we’re winning,” Trump said.

Trump said earlier today that “help is on its way” to Iran as the regime faces mounting unrest and a deadly crackdown on anti-government protesters. The demonstrations erupted in late December over economic hardship under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with Tehran blaming the United States for stoking the uprising as security forces move to suppress dissent. Iran’s supreme leader claimed the demonstrations were driven by Washington, insisting the government would not bend to foreign interference. In a post Monday, Khamenei said Iranians had shown their strength against outside adversaries.

“The great Iranian nation has asserted its resolve and identity in the face of the enemies. This was a warning to US politicians that they should halt their deceitful actions and stop relying on their traitorous hirelings,” Khamenei wrote on X.

Iran’s security forces have killed at least 500 people as authorities move to crush a new surge of anti-regime demonstrations, according to activist groups. Protests have spread to hundreds of locations nationwide, with thousands detained and communications cut as the government works to contain the unrest.
