We’ve got a major move in Philly!
The Philadelphia Eagles have relieved Kevin Patullo of his duties as offensive coordinator, the team confirmed in an announcement Tuesday.
“I have decided to make a change at offensive coordinator,” said head coach Nick Sirianni in an official statement. “I met with Kevin today to discuss the difficult decision, as he is a great coach who has my utmost respect. He has been integral to this team’s success over the last five years, not only to the on-field product but behind the scenes as a valued leader for our players and organization. I have no doubt he will continue to have a successful coaching career.
“Ultimately, when we fall short of our goals that responsibility lies on my shoulders.” (RELATED: Mike Tomlin Stepping Down After Nearly 20 Years With Steelers: REPORT)
According to a source who spoke with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sirianni is willing to retain Patullo on his coaching staff, though it would come in a different capacity.
The 44-year-old Patullo earned the promotion to offensive coordinator this past offseason, moving up from his previous roles as pass game coordinator and associate head coach to fill the vacancy left by Kellen Moore, who departed to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
After capturing the Super Bowl title the previous year, the Eagles experienced a noticeable drop-off in offensive performance this season. Their scoring average fell from 27.2 points per game (seventh in the NFL) to 22.3 (19th); offensive efficiency rankings slipped from fourth overall to 19th; and the ground game declined sharply from 179 yards per contest (second league-wide) to 116.9 (18th).
Despite boasting the league’s highest-paid offensive unit — highlighted by standout talents such as running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver A.J. Brown, wide receiver DeVonta Smith and quarterback Jalen Hurts — the Philadelphia attack struggled with consistency throughout much of the year, a trend that carried over into their 23-19 playoff defeat Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

They might not be in the Super Bowl this year, but I guarantee Eagles fans are smiling from ear to ear right now.
