Patriots’ Mack Hollins Arrives To AFC Championship In Way That Makes Me Want To Give Him Super Bowl Ring Already

I don’t normally say nice things about the Patriots, but when I do …

For a while now, New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins has earned a reputation as someone who can get a bit wacky on gameday, and he elevated that persona to a completely new stage before his squad’s AFC Championship matchup Sunday afternoon against the Denver Broncos. Hollins, who frequently arrives at NFL stadiums shirtless and barefoot, pulled out all the stops for his entrance at Empower Field at Mile High. The wide receiver showed up in a full-on costume tribute to the 1979 cult classic film “The Warriors,” particularly channeling the character Luther in the iconic scene where he pulls up in a car, clinking glass bottles that he had on his fingers to taunt the rival gang.

Complete with the headband, leather vest and mismatched bottles dangling from his fingers exactly like Luther, Hollins delivered the famous line with near-perfect delivery: “Warriorrrssss, come out and playyyyyy-yyyyaaaay.”

To compare:

When you channel Luther, you’re clearly asking for a fight, and that’s what Hollins did. This man invited the entire city of Denver to try and stop the Patriots.

It takes a special kind of irrational confidence to clink bottles together in the face of an AFC Championship game, and on the road at that, but maybe that’s what the Patriots needed to ultimately get the win – a maniac in a leather vest telling the Broncos that safety is not an option today.

I can dig it. I can definitely dig it.
