Minnesota Governor Tim Walz publicly criticized the Trump administration and federal immigration enforcement agencies while declaring what he described as a political victory following unrest and anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis, ahead of a scheduled meeting with Tom Homan, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
Walz’s comments came after President Donald Trump confirmed that he had spoken with Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey regarding immigration enforcement operations in the city.
Trump announced Monday that Minnesota officials had agreed to cooperate with his administration to deport criminal illegal aliens in Minneapolis.

Trump also stated that Homan would travel to Minnesota to take control of ICE operations.
Despite those discussions, Walz maintained a confrontational tone toward the administration.
In an interview that aired Tuesday on the Bulwark podcast hosted by Tim Miller, Walz said what he described as a “massive organized nonviolent resistance” forced the Trump administration to alter its approach in Minnesota.
Walz said, “What massive organized nonviolent resistance did,” referring to protests and unrest surrounding ICE activity in the state. He described the situation as traumatic and characterized federal enforcement actions as an “assault.”

“To be very clear, there’s a change in tone, and we’ll see. I’m going to meet here later today with Tom Homan,” Walz said during the interview.
He added that he understood Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino was no longer involved, saying, “I understand Greg Bovino is gone, you know, and that’s a good riddance, one.”
Walz went on to sharply criticize federal immigration authorities, stating that ICE is “a unorganized, untrained, dangerous force on the streets that has nothing to do with either immigration or law enforcement.”
“There’s a hint of hope and optimism, but there is a resolve that says, you know, the end of this is not Greg Bovino leaving,” Walz said.
“The end of this is a sane policy on how you do immigration reform and stop an attack by the federal government on the state.”
The governor also referenced the mood among protesters and activists in Minnesota, comparing it to what he described as a cautious, long-term mindset shaped by the state’s climate.
He said, “Minnesotans don’t let their guard down ‘till May,” and claimed protesters remained skeptical of federal actions.

Walz later shared the interview clip on social media, writing, “This doesn’t end with Greg Bovino. This ends with impartial investigations, the departure of federal forces, and an end to the campaign of retribution against Minnesota.”
The remarks follow the death of Alex Pretti, who was identified by authorities as an anti-ICE rioter who confronted federal agents while armed with a loaded handgun and two fully loaded magazines.
Walz has previously stated that he is “creating a log of evidence for the future prosecution of ICE agents and officials” in connection with that incident.
President Trump has said his administration’s focus remains on removing criminal illegal aliens and restoring order.
He announced earlier that Homan would be deployed to Minnesota to oversee ICE operations amid ongoing tensions between state officials and federal authorities.
