Hey y’all, welcome back to Unfit to Print.
Apologies for the lack of a Tuesday newsletter this week. I ended up getting pretty sick and needed to rest. Still feeling a bit under the weather, so hang with me through this shorter piece and we’ll be back in our normal groove next week.
WE’RE DOING BLACK SQUARES AGAIN
Conservative women on X are noticing a pattern …
Our social media feeds look a lot like 2020.
I don’t mean sourdough bread loaves, solo hikes, and dalgona coffee (don’t ask). It’s the renewed political hysteria. The anti-ICE posts from female celebrities and influencers are eerily reminiscent of the dreaded Black Lives Matter “black squares” that took over the algorithm after the death of George Floyd in the summer of 2020.
Singers Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande, and Katy Perry, model Bella Hadid, and actresses Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Aniston have all thrown out anti-ICE rhetoric on their Instagram profiles.
Some brands have gotten in on the action, including Faherty, Lush Cosmetics (famous for their “bath bombs”), and the Whole30 diet.
“It’s okay if meal planning feels hard today,” the Whole30 account said. “We just watched our government brutally murder a man in the streets from 4 different angles.”
They added, for good measure, that “no good person could abide this, never mind support it.”
A subreddit that is dedicated to posting pictures of cats playing the bongos has declared that people who support ICE are no longer welcome on the page. Now there’s a sentence I never thought I would write.
It’s not just the bandwagon-type posts that call back to the black squares. It’s the manipulative, emotion-based rhetoric, the exclusion of counter-narratives, the insistence that their view is the only right view.
“I can’t believe how much this week has felt like Covid era 2020 to me,” pnw working mom wrote on X. “The purity tests, the ‘unfriend me if you voted for Trump’ Facebook posts, weaponizing empathy, everything emotion based. Soooo many bored, angry, smug privileged liberal women with zero actual solutions.”
If you’ve been reading State of the Day and Unfit to Print for a while, we’ve talked about how women are more disposed to groupthink and cult-like behavior. We’ve discussed how they get radicalized by the Democrat-media-higher education complex. That’s certainly a lot of what we’re seeing. The affluent white liberal women (AWFLs) learn the lingo of social justice and then apply it to hot-button political issues to prove they are part of the “in” crowd, The Good People. The true believers go a step further and join the throngs of whistleblowers obstructing immigration enforcement.
But that doesn’t fully explain why so-called normies and some conservative women are wavering on mass deportations because of the recent shootings. TPUSA host and MAHA influencer Alex Clark said even the “cuteservatives” — a name she gave to her conservative female following — are falling for the “liberal propaganda.” Anecdotally, I have also noticed a fair amount of conservative women getting a bit soft and squishy post-Pretti.
This comment from Sovereign Brah, I think, captures the final slice of the pie:
“Most women simply aren’t prepared for what must be done to save this country,” he wrote. “There comes a time to just leave things to the men — that time is now.”
Women don’t like violence. Psychological studies show women have a greater aversion to viewing violent or disturbing videos. To put it in Gen Z terms, they “get the ick” when they see someone getting shot on camera, even if the shooting was legally justified. There’s a reason men watch more war and action movies than women.
Let’s apply this to the current situation. We have tens of millions of illegals in our country. Trump was elected to deport them. Angry liberals are rioting and obstructing enforcement efforts. To be blunt, it’s going to take some seemingly nasty, brutish shit to get the job done.
That doesn’t mean ICE should be out there trigger-happy or that the DHS secretary should be calling everybody a domestic terrorist, but if lesbians try to run ICE agents over and male nurses reach for their waistbands while resisting, there unfortunately may be consequences. What cannot be allowed is for the people blowing rape whistles in service of protecting rapists to decide U.S. immigration policy through a heckler’s veto.
It’s just a fact that women, broadly speaking, don’t have what it takes. They don’t have the stomach for it. That’s fine, but they can spare the lectures and sit back and let the boys work. I want this meme in action:
