Tributes from stars, politicians and fans around the world have poured in as news of Catherine O’Hara’s death sends shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
Mccaulay Culkin was among the first to memorialize O’Hara on social media. Culkin’s heartfelt message to his “Home Alone” mother tugged at the heart strings of fans, and the internet quickly lit up as other high-profile figures shared their own loving messages.
“Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later,” he wrote.
Pedro Pascal, Chris Hadfield, Lea Thompson and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney were among the famous faces posting online.
“Game of Thrones” actor Pedro Pascal wrote, “Oh, genius to be near you. Eternally grateful. There is less light in my world, this lucky world that had you, will keep you, always. Always ♥️” His post included a photo of the actor with his arm around O’Hara in a loving embrace.
“Back to the Future” actress Lea Thompson described O’Hara as “the most glorious person,” going on to say, “Kind, honest, smart, funny, and beautiful beyond words.”
“She carried the spirit. You could feel her love of humanity in her brilliant work. And she had integrity, clarity and wisdom that made her a unique treasure,” she wrote.
“I know the greats are with her now trying to pick her wonderful brain as to how she could do it all. Here on earth our [sic] hearts are a bit broken. We needed you now more than ever. Rest in peace dear friend,” she wrote.
The Prime Minister of Canada paid tribute to O’Hara, who began her career in a comedy club in her hometown of Toronto.
“Over 5 decades of work, Catherine earned her place in the canon of Canadian comedy — from SCTV to Schitt’s Creek,” he wrote.
“Canada has lost a legend. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who loved her work on screen. She will be dearly missed.”

O’Hara died Friday at the age of 71 after suffering an apparent medical emergency at her Los Angeles home.
