Beachfront Homes In Outer Banks At Risk Of Collapsing Due To Near-Hurricane Force Nor’easter Blasting Carolinas

Winds that are recording at near-hurricane force due to a rapidly intensifying nor’easter forming off the coast of the Southeastern United States are likely to pose a threat to beachfront homes that are vulnerable to collapsing across the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

The region will be dealt heavy snow and strong gusts as a low-pressure system intensifies off the Southeast coast, with one of the biggest anxieties being the coastal impacts. (RELATED: South Florida Could See Snow Due To Rare Gulf-Effect Event)

27 privately owned beach houses in North Carolina have suffered a collapse into the Atlantic Ocean since 2020. 16 of the collapsed homes were in Buxton and Rodanthe, taking place from Sept.-Oct. 2025, according to FOX Weather.

The Daily Caller covered five oceanfront houses collapsing in Sept. 2025 while Hurricanes Imelda and Humberto were in the Atlantic.

As the nor’easter continues to strengthen, concern is increasing that the mixture of 60-70 mph wind gusts onshore, severe beach erosion and massive ocean surf has the potential of collapsing more homes.
