Man Left In Critical Condition After Brawl Erupts Over Snow-Cleared Parking Spot In Philadelphia

A man in Philadelphia has been hospitalized after being left in critical condition following a brawl that erupted over a snow-cleared parking spot, according to police.

Per surveillance footage, the fight was between a 21-year-old and 45-year-old man, occurring Thursday at around 1:20 p.m. in Philadelphia, precisely in the section of Kensington. It’s also being reported that several other people allegedly jumped in the fight, with authorities saying that it sparked up over a parking spot that was being saved.

While the fight was happening, the 45-year-old allegedly pulled out a knife and the 21-year-old allegedly took out his handgun, which is legally owned, according to police. However, each man “placed their weapons down and continued fighting.” (RELATED: Handcuffs Slapped On Benjy Taylor After Morehouse-Tuskegee College Basketball Game In Absolutely Bizarre Scene)

At one moment in the fight, officials say that a woman, 36, armed herself with a gun out of a vehicle. She then allegedly hit the older man and fired a shot into the ground.

Suffering head injuries, the 45-year-old was placed in the hospital and listed in critical condition.

Everybody involved in the fight was placed into custody, however, there haven’t been any charges filed as authorities continue their investigation.

When it comes to the culture of Philadelphia, saving parking spots is nothing new. In fact, it even has a nickname: “savesies.” Often, chairs, traffic cones and other blockades are used to mark off a space that was just shoveled. However, after the fight Thursday, police are issuing a reminder to residents that the act is illegal.

“It’s very disturbing,” said Philadelphia Police Sgt. Eric Gripp. “That’s why we do take this seriously. Even though it seems like it’s not that serious of an issue, unfortunately, over the years we’ve seen some really tragic results.” (RELATED: Jarrell Miller’s Hair Flies Off During Fight Against Kingsley Ibeh In One Of Greatest Scenes Boxing Has Ever Delivered)

Police also reminded residents that parking spots aren’t owned by anyone, whether you shovel it or not.

“It’s not your parking spot. You don’t own it. But also think about it: if someone is parking in your spot, there’s a good chance they had to shovel out a spot of their own,” said Gripp.
