‘They Caused My Right Hand To Bleed’: DCNF Reporter Describes Assault By Left-Wing Activists In Minneapolis

Daily Caller News Foundation reporter Jorge Ventura said Monday that left-wing activists assaulted him and a colleague when they documented an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) checkpoint in Minneapolis.

Ventura and photojournalist Eric Carrera arrived at a “filter blockade” on the streets of Minneapolis. Ventura appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” to describe the incident.

“They actually caused my right hand to bleed. They attacked the photojournalist I was with, Eric Carrera,” Ventura told host Laura Ingraham. “And they do this, Laura, because they want to deter journalists like myself who actually show the truth of what’s going on on the ground, and we would not be deterred at the Daily Caller News Foundation.”

Masked individuals used traffic cones, wooden materials and furniture to regulate traffic at the makeshift checkpoint. Activists checked vehicles’ license plates against a database to identify potential ICE agents.

“This was called a filter blockade. It was essentially a makeshift checkpoint in Minneapolis,” Ventura said. “I honestly couldn’t even believe that it was still up more than 24 hours. Ventura said activists ran the license plate of his Somalian Uber driver and accused him of being an ICE agent. Minnesota law allows only authorized persons such as police to direct traffic. Ventura compared the situation to the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone established in Seattle during the 2020 riots, telling SiriusXM’s “Wilkow Majority” last week that Minneapolis “has been really a whole another level” because “it really seems like the whole city is working together.”

The assault comes amid weeks of anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis after federal agents fatally shot Renee Good on Jan. 7 and Alex Pretti on Jan. 25 during confrontations in the city. Following Pretti’s shooting, members of President Donald Trump’s administration accused Pretti of domestic terrorism, but Trump dismissed the claim, saying he had not heard it and would not back it.
