Starmer has U-turned on refusing to enact primary legislation to remove Peter Mandelson from the House of Lords. Yesterday, Downing Street said specifically that the Prime Minister did not have the power to remove him from the Upper Chamber. Turns out he does…
Speaking at the Lobby briefing of journalists today, Starmer’s spokesman said that the PM is now “looking at all options” to remove Mandelson:
“The Prime Minister is appalled at the latest revelations. He is not reassured that the totality of information has emerged. The Prime Minister is clear that Mandelson should not be a member of the House of Lords and wants to assure that is achieved as quickly as possible. The Prime Minister has asked officials to look at legislative options…it would require a law change to do that. He has asked officials to move at pace.”
Downing Street added that the Cabinet Office has today referred to the police its “assessment” of the Epstein files, which appear to show Mandelson leaked No10 emails to his paedo friend. Desperate to get ahead of this scandal further embroiling Starmer…
