President Donald Trump spotlighted the case of Dalilah Coleman during his State of the Union address, calling on Congress to pass legislation that would prohibit states from granting commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.
Ainsley Earhardt introduced the segment the following morning, saying, “President Trump honoring seven year old Dalilah Coleman at last night’s State of the Union.”
During his address, Trump recounted the circumstances of the crash that injured Dalilah.
Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement
“Dalilah Coleman was only five years old in June 2024 when a 18 wheel tractor trailer plowed into her stopped car traveling at 60 miles an hour or more,” Trump said. “The driver was an illegal alien let in by Joe Biden and given a commercial driver’s license by open borders.”
He described the prognosis doctors initially gave the family.
“Politicians in California, doctors said Dalilah would never be able to walk or talk have a good life. She wouldn’t even be able to eat again,” Trump said.
He added, “But against all odds, she is now in the first grade, learning to walk, and she’s here this evening with her dad, Marcus, a fantastic man.”

Trump then announced a legislative proposal.
“Tonight, I’m calling on Congress to pass what we will call the Dalilah law, barring any state from granting commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens,” he said.
Earhardt later interviewed Dalilah’s parents, Marcus Coleman and Ileana Krause, who are in Washington, D.C., advocating for the bill.
“And joining us now, Dalilah Coleman along with her parents, Marcus Coleman and Ileana Krause. Thank you all for coming on with us. Good morning. Good morning, good morning,” Earhardt said. “So Marcus, watching that last night, I’m a mother of a little girl, and just such a touching moment, but broke my heart, because you and your wife had all these dreams for Delilah, and that was taken away about a year and a half ago. Tell me what last night meant to you, the president recognizing the situation.”
Marcus Coleman said, “It meant a lot to us, the fact that we were able to have Dalilah’s story heard, especially by the President, and get this initiative move forward. We’re trying to get this law into Congress, yeah, just to protect the future kids that are out there and just Americans all around.”
Earhardt asked Krause about the status of the legislation.
“Well, Ileana, hat is the status on that? I would think every Congresswoman and Congressman would vote for this so that an undocumented person in America can’t get a driver’s license… What’s the status? Have you talked to Congress, our lawmakers? Do you think this will pass?” Earhardt said.
Krause responded, “So right now, this is why we’re in DC. We’re trying to get this law to pass. I think it’s very important. We’re hoping that we can get something moving forward.”
Earhardt also asked Marcus Coleman about their daughter’s recovery.
“So Marcus, what has it been like? I was reading about your daughter’s situation, fractured skull, broken femur, traumatic brain injury. She was in a coma. She’s now nonverbal. She depends on a feeding tube that is always in her little tummy. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. What has life been like for you over the last year and a half?” she asked.
Marcus Coleman said, “Oh, it’s been really difficult. It’s definitely a learning curve for us. She has to sit there and eat foods that we kind of assume that she’s going to like. She hates the feeding too. She’s been, what do you call it, diagnosed with diplegic cerebral palsy. Since the accident, she’s relearning how to walk. Everything that she does that’s exciting for everything that she does now that used to be exciting for her is, is just a new endeavor for her. Yeah? You know, just Yeah. I mean, just like a regular day to day thing is, is something definitely new for her to experience all over again.”
Earhardt then addressed Krause about Dalilah’s personality.
“Ileana, I know you told our producers that y’all have come to the realization that she’s not going to be the person that you wanted her to be, that you miss who she is. She wanted to be a gymnast, she wanted to be a wrestler, she wanted to wrestle, but no longer able to do that. But God clearly has a plan for her. She is with us today, and she is a gorgeous little girl. She is such a light. I believe in miracles. I know God can heal her. Tell us what your daughter is like,” Earhardt said.
Krause responded, “She is joyous, she is funny, she is smart, she is still there, like I said, she is not the girl that we wanted her to be or the girl that she was supposed to be, but she is a miracle, and she’s here for a reason, and God kept her here for with us, for a purpose. She has a purpose.”
Earhardt concluded, “She does have a purpose, and she can, we can use this law to change the lives of other people so this doesn’t happen again, but she Dalilah, you are such a joy. You’re beautiful. I wish you all the best. God has a big plan for your life, sweetheart.”
