Conservative commentator Ben Ferguson said a recent speech moment involving President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris revealed what he described as a defining contrast between Republicans and Democrats heading into the midterm elections.
Ferguson argued that the exchange provided what he called a ready-made campaign message for conservatives across the country.
“They just wrote the ad that every conservative is going to use in these midterms, Harris and the President, in a very organic way, was like, surely you will stand for the American people,” Ferguson said. “And they refused, and that is what this election is going to end up being about.”

Ferguson said the moment highlighted what he views as a fundamental difference in priorities between President Trump and Republican candidates aligned with him, and Democratic leaders.
“You couldn’t have asked for a better gift to show the American people the difference between Donald Trump and Republican candidates that want to work with him and the Democratic Party who says, no, no, we do not put Americans first,” Ferguson said.
“We put illegal immigrants first. We protect waste, fraud and abuse that’s happening in Minnesota. We put these criminals ahead of you when they wouldn’t even stand as a group, when you’re honoring a child that was hit by an illegal immigrant.”
According to Ferguson, the reaction during the speech offered voters a preview of how Democrats would govern if they regained power.

“That tells you what the Democratic Party will do if they’re back in power,” he said.
“They will immediately reopen our borders. They will immediately open every government program, yet again, to illegal immigrants.”
Ferguson said he believes the exchange will shape the narrative of the midterm campaign cycle.
“And so I think the President there had an organic moment, an authentic moment that is going to define these midterms,” Ferguson said.
He also praised President Trump’s handling of the speech, calling it one of his strongest performances.
“And then you notice the president, and he’s brilliant in this way,” Ferguson said.
“And I think this, again, was the best speech I’ve ever seen him give.”
Ferguson said the President built on what he viewed as a broader theme during the address, pointing to additional moments when members of the opposing party did not respond.
“He noticed there was a theme,” Ferguson said.
“Then you guys won’t stand for anything that’s great in this country. Any good news? Prescription drugs? How do you not stand for that when you’re lowering the price of life saving drugs for people that need them. How do you not stand for our men and women in uniform. How do you not stand for the people that have been victims of heinous crimes and a mother that’s crying who tried to come this country, to flee an area where they thought they were in danger overseas.”
Ferguson said the President recognized the opportunity to contrast positions in real time.
“When you look at all of that, the president read the room and realized, wow, I can show the American people right now,” Ferguson said.
“This is what they’re in favor of, and this is what we’re fighting against.”

Ferguson maintained that the moment encapsulated what he believes will be central to the upcoming elections, with voters deciding between what he described as competing priorities on immigration, government programs, and support for Americans.
