The patriotism is sky high right now! Just ask Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuña Jr.
Following the fireworks of the 2026 Winter Olympics, sports fans are gloriously getting thrown right into another international tournament in the form of the World Baseball Classic.
Starting Mar. 4, 20 nations will square off against one other to see who will be the kings of the baseball world. After beating the United States three years ago in 2023, Japan will be defending their championship title.
Second baseman Ozzie Albies and right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr., star players for the Atlanta Braves, will be competing in the WBC. Albies will be suiting up for the Netherlands, while Acuña Jr. will be representing Venezuela. To make the situation even spicier between the two, the first game for both will be against each other as their respective countries are scheduled for Friday. Prior to the game, the guys have been doing a little trash talking to each other, in particular Albies.
In North Port, Florida at the Spring Training facility of the Braves, Albies and Acuña Jr. made a bet that if the Netherlands wins the game over Venezuela, the latter has to wear the former’s jersey.
“When we beat Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, he’s going to wear my jersey when he plays against the other teams,” said Albies. “It’s okay papa, I’ll sign it for you.”
