Donald Trump has attacked Keir Starmer again, this time in The Sun:
“[Starmer] has not been helpful. I never thought I’d see that. I never thought I’d see that from the UK. We love the UK…. It’s a different world, actually. It’s just a much different kind of relationship that we’ve had with your country before… It’s very sad to see that the relationship is obviously not what it was.”
Asked if Starmer was “pandering to Muslim voters” in vacillating over Iran, Trump said “[he] could be”. He also took aim once again at the Chagos surrender, saying the US now calls the archipelago “the woke island”…
Starmer’s fixer Darren Jones has already offered the Number 10 pushback on the morning round, telling Times Radio:
“I obviously disagree with those sentiments. The prime minister was very clear yesterday in the House of Commons that we will only engage British assets or British forces where there is a legal basis to do so, a clear plan for why we’re doing it and if it is in the interests of our country. That’s why we were not involved in the initial strikes in Iran in the Middle East but it is also why we’ve consented to American Air Forces using our air bases and for British jets to be in the sky in order to defend British citizens who are currently in the region.”
Starmer’s self-appointed role as the Trump Whisperer is looking increasingly shaky this morning…
