Officials later said the fire is believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure involving the bucket truck. Fire authorities indicated that the malfunction likely triggered the blaze that engulfed the equipment during the incident.
The cause of the mechanical failure has not been publicly detailed. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The footage has circulated widely online due to the intensity of the scene, showing the worker suspended above the burning vehicle while coworkers attempted to respond on the ground below.
Bucket trucks, commonly used by utility crews for electrical line work and maintenance, are designed to lift workers high above roadways and infrastructure to perform repairs or maintenance.
The equipment typically includes safety harnesses intended to prevent workers from falling while working at elevated heights.
In this case, the harness appeared to keep the worker suspended while the fire burned beneath him, as shown in the video.
Authorities have not released the identity of the injured worker. Additional details about the company involved in the incident have not been publicly disclosed.
Emergency officials have not announced further information regarding the investigation into the truck’s mechanical failure or the condition of the injured worker beyond reports that he sustained serious injuries.
The Baton Rouge incident remains under review as officials continue examining the equipment failure and circumstances that led to the fire and subsequent fall.
