I put on my Lionel Messi jersey for this one … let’s get it!
Inter Miami was in attendance Thursday at the White House in celebration of winning the MLS Cup championship, with the franchise pulling off the feat for the first time ever in the history of the organization. And to make the event even sweeter, team captain Lionel Messi gave President Donald Trump a gift.
Messi came into the East Room with Trump, as well as Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas, and ultimately gave the POTUS a signature Miami pink soccer ball. On top of that, Trump also landed an Inter Miami jersey and watch, getting those gifts from Mas and head coach Javier Mascherano. “We’re honoring truly talented people,” said Trump surrounded by Messi and Mas as the other players stood behind the president. “It’s my distinct privilege to say what no American president has ever had the chance to say before: ‘Welcome to the White House, Lionel Messi.’”
Back in December, Inter Miami won the 2025 MLS Cup, taking out the Vancouver Whitecaps, 3-1. Meanwhile, Messi won the MVP award of the league, doing so for a second straight campaign.
