Iranian Leader’s Possible Successor Allegedly Made UK Hospital Visits For ‘Impotency’ Treatment

Iran’s potential new supreme leader allegedly received multiple treatments for ‘impotency’ at U.K. hospitals, according to a U.S. intelligence record.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s killing in the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran beginning Feb. 28 left Iran’s top position open with his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been widely considered a top contender to succeed him, CBS News reported. Mojtaba allegedly made four visits to hospitals in the UK to address “impotency” while facing pressure to produce heirs by his family, according to a briefing dispatched by the U.S. State Department to a its London embassy in 2008. The Daily Mail first reported the story.

Mojtaba’s alleged impotency caused three visits to London hospitals in Wellington and Cromwell. His family’s pressure caused a fourth visit that lasted two months before his wife became pregnant with a son later named “Ali” after the now-dead supreme leader, according to the briefing.

Mojtaba had a late third marriage, “reportedly due to an impotency problem treated and eventually resolved during three extended visits to the UK,” according to the briefing.

Mojtaba’s role in the regime built a reputation as a forceful operator in the office of his father, he was “close to and well briefed by” senior officials in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), U.S. officials said. “Ali Khamenei is reportedly seen by some within the Leader’s Office as treating and consulting Mojtaba as he would an eventual successor to his responsibilities, rather than purely as an advisor,” the briefing said.

Mojtaba’s perception was weak in clerical terms, according to the document. “[H]e is not expected ever to achieve by his own scholarship the status of ‘mujtahid,’ far less that of ayatollah,” the briefing claimed. “Mojtaba reportedly is quite aware of his own limitations and does not appear to harbor an expectation of becoming sole Supreme Leader in his own right.”

Iran’s Assembly of Experts allegedly elected him as Supreme Leader after the IRGC pressured them, according to the Iran International TV network. The move has not been publicly revealed is reportedly expected to follow after the burial of Ali Khamenei. The accuracy of the report remains uncertain.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader, sought treatment for impotence during multiple visits to private hospitals in the United Kingdom, Daily Mail reported citing a US diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks.

The alleged succession was not typical and appears to be out of a desire for control and speed in the face of the ongoing conflict, according to the Iran International TV network.

The meeting was reportedly conducted online after the place where the assembly was expected to mee was bombed, according to the Daily Mail.
