Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith sharply criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris during recent remarks, expressing frustration with what he described as her suggestion that supporters — including many Black voters — did not back her during the 2024 presidential election.
Smith said Harris appeared to imply that voters failed to support her campaign despite the large number of Americans who cast ballots for her.
He noted that millions of voters backed Harris during the campaign and said those voters should not be portrayed as having abandoned her.

“But the Kamala Harris thing I am going to tell y’all right now I’m on the verge, one of these days, real soon to blow in a gasket if I see that lady, figuratively speaking in our face one more time talking about she told us, so it’s pissing me off, because it’s implying that we didn’t support her,” Smith said.
Smith pointed out that Harris received nearly 75 million votes in the election after launching a campaign that lasted just over three months.
“Nearly 75 million people voted for her. You had 107 day campaign. 75 million people almost showed up to vote for you,” Smith said.
He also noted the scale of the financial resources available to the campaign.
“You you had a billion and a half dollars to spend. We supported you.”

Smith criticized Harris for addressing Black audiences in a way that he believes suggests they failed to back her candidacy.
“Why are you sitting at a memorial service in a church with number black people around you talking to us about you? Told us so, like we didn’t support you,” Smith said.
He said many Black voters did support Harris during the election.
“I voted for her. Most black folks voted for her. What are you talking about?”
Smith also argued that Harris received strong support even though she did not go through a traditional primary campaign to secure the Democratic nomination.
“We supported you when you didn’t necessarily earn our support,” Smith said.
“You didn’t go through a primary, you didn’t scavenge around the country, earning our vote, knocking door to door. You didn’t do that.”
According to Smith, Harris became the Democratic nominee after former President Joe Biden stepped down from the race.
“You bypassed the primary. You were handed the presidential nomination for the Democratic Party once Biden stepped down,” Smith said.
He added that some members of the Democratic Party had previously suggested that Harris may not have secured the nomination if a full primary contest had taken place.
“You had some people in the Democratic Party laughing about the fact that, you know what, we glad that Biden stepped down when he did, because had he stepped away earlier, there would have been a primary, she wouldn’t have been a Democratic nominee for the presidency,” Smith said.
Smith also referenced a moment during Harris’s media appearances in which she was asked to identify how her policies would differ from those of the Biden administration.
“And after that, you know what, she wouldn’t have had that opportunity,” Smith said.
“It wasn’t us that went on the view. And when you were asked, Is there anything different that you would do compared to what Biden did? I really can’t think of anything. We didn’t do that. You did.”
