Kamala Cancels California Book Tour Stops Amid Questions Over Taxpayer-Funded Security

Kamala Harris has canceled several upcoming stops on the California leg of her book tour, pulling out of appearances scheduled in Sacramento, San Diego, and Anaheim next month, as reported by The New York Post.

The events were part of Harris’ promotional tour for her memoir, 107 Days. The former presidential candidate had been slated to appear at the California venues in early April.

However, on Tuesday, the remaining appearances in the state were removed from her schedule.

Ticketing company Ticketmaster notified customers that the events had been canceled and issued refunds to those who had purchased tickets.

In a notice to ticketholders, the company stated that the cancellations for “A Conversation with Kamala Harris” were due to a “scheduling conflict.”

Harris’ most recent appearance on the tour took place in Oakland on March 3. At that event, she spoke about her memoir and participated in a public discussion tied to the book’s release.

Despite the California cancellations, Harris still has several stops planned in other states. According to the tour schedule, she remains set to appear in Denver, Colorado, on April 2.

Additional events are scheduled in the Southeast, including appearances in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 13 and Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 14.

Harris is also scheduled to appear in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 16 and Savannah, Georgia, on April 17.

The canceled California stops were previously listed for April 4 in Sacramento, April 6 in San Diego, and April 10 in Anaheim.

All three events have since been removed from Harris’ official website, and it is not known whether they will be rescheduled.

Before the latest cancellations, Harris had already held several book tour appearances in California. Those included two events in Los Angeles, one in San Francisco, and the March 3 stop in Oakland.

The changes to Harris’ California schedule come as questions have been raised about the cost of security for the book tour.

Reports indicate that California Highway Patrol officers have been assigned to provide security for Harris during her appearances.

According to reporting by KCRA, dozens of CHP officers have been reassigned since September to accompany Harris as she travels for the tour.

The security coverage reportedly extends beyond California and has included travel across the country and even overseas.

State officials have not disclosed how many officers are currently assigned to Harris’ security detail or the total amount of taxpayer money that has been spent on the operation.

A retired CHP officer told KCRA that the security costs associated with such assignments are likely substantial.

Republican Assemblyman Tom Lackey, who previously spent 28 years working for the California Highway Patrol, also weighed in on the issue.

“All I know is it’s a lot, it is a significant amount of money,” Lackey told KCRA.

The CHP has not publicly released figures related to the number of officers detailed to Harris or the overall cost of the security arrangements.

For now, Harris’ upcoming tour stops remain concentrated outside California as the canceled appearances in Sacramento, San Diego, and Anaheim remain off the schedule.
