Possible Motive Uncovered After Explosive Vehicle Slams Into Temple Israel Preschool in Michigan [WATCH]

Authorities are continuing to investigate a violent incident in West Bloomfield, Michigan, after a man drove a vehicle loaded with explosives into a preschool building at Temple Israel on Thursday afternoon.

This prompted an emergency response and a federal investigation into what officials say appears to be a targeted attack on the Jewish community, as reported by The New York Post.

The suspect, identified as Ayman Ghazali, died during the incident. Investigators say the 41-year-old was a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Lebanon who lived in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

According to sources close to the investigation cited by The Detroit News, Ghazali may have been motivated by personal grievances linked to events overseas.

The outlet reported that at least four of Ghazali’s relatives, including a sibling, were killed days earlier in Israeli airstrikes in the Lebanese town of Machghara amid escalating tensions connected to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces had launched a wave of strikes targeting Hezbollah leadership in Beirut on Saturday. Reports indicated the attacks killed at least 217 Lebanese civilians and injured nearly 800 others.

Authorities say Ghazali carried out the attack on Thursday by driving an explosive-laden vehicle directly into the entrance of Temple Israel’s preschool building. The facility houses approximately 140 students.

Temple security guards responded immediately after the vehicle rammed through the entrance and entered the building.

Law enforcement sources said security personnel opened fire on the suspect and stopped him during the incident. Ghazali was later found dead inside the vehicle.

Investigators reported that the car contained mortar shells and other explosive materials. The vehicle caught fire during the event, and the suspect’s body was discovered inside the burned vehicle.

Despite the severity of the attack, authorities confirmed that none of the preschool’s children or staff members were injured.

However, the temple’s head security guard was struck by the vehicle during the chaos and was knocked unconscious.

The guard, along with 30 other emergency responders who experienced smoke inhalation while inside the building, were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The incident is now under investigation by federal authorities. The FBI is leading the inquiry and confirmed that investigators are treating the event as a targeted attack on the Jewish community.

Ghazali’s background has also become part of the ongoing investigation. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Ghazali was born in Lebanon in January 1985 and entered the United States through Detroit on May 10, 2011.

He arrived on an immigrant visa as the spouse of an American citizen.

Federal officials said he became a naturalized U.S. citizen on Feb. 5, 2016.

According to reports, Ghazali worked at Hamido Restaurant, a Middle Eastern restaurant in the Detroit area.

Court records also show that Ghazali shared at least one child with his former wife. His ex-wife filed for divorce in Wayne County Circuit Court in August 2024. The divorce was finalized approximately seven months later.

Temple Israel is located in Oakland County, an area that is home to one of the largest Jewish populations outside the New York metropolitan region.

Investigators continue to examine evidence recovered from the vehicle and other materials connected to the suspect as they work to determine what led to the attack.
