Newsmax host Carl Higbie unleashed a scathing critique of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) during a recent broadcast of his show “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE,” accusing the congresswoman of ingratitude toward the United States and highlighting what he described as troubling patterns in her Minnesota district.
Higbie’s comments, aired in early March 2026, focused on Omar’s background, her public statements, and ongoing issues involving Somali immigrants, including convictions related to terrorism and a massive fraud scandal.
Higbie argued that the U.S. has been too lenient in allowing individuals who express anti-American sentiments to remain in the country.
Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement
He specifically targeted Omar, pointing to her family’s history in Somalia and her path to U.S. citizenship.
“In America, not only can we not get rid of these people who spew the hatred for our country, they burn our flag, they advocate for Sharia law, and they tell us from the middle of Times Square on loud speakers that they’re here to take over our country. We, apparently, in America, elect them like Ilhan Omar, she’s at the top of my list for denaturalization for a number of reasons, but one of them is that she came here by our good graces because her father was a genocide committing warlord in Somalia, and they had to flee when his administration lost power, because everybody wanted to kill him. America gave her and her father asylum, and now she hates us, and instead of thanking us, she spits in our face,” Higbie said.
Omar’s father, Nur Omar Mohamed, served in the Somali military under dictator Siad Barre, whose regime collapsed in 1991 amid civil war and accusations of atrocities.
The family fled to Kenya before resettling in the U.S. in 1995, where Omar eventually became a naturalized citizen.

Higbie claimed this backstory showcases a broader issue of immigrants who benefit from American generosity only to criticize the nation.
Higbie then addressed Omar’s defense of the Somali community in Minnesota, which has faced scrutiny over the Feeding Our Future scandal—a federal case involving the theft of over $250 million in COVID-19 relief funds intended for child nutrition programs.
Prosecutors have charged dozens of individuals, many from the Somali community, with fraud. Higbie expanded this to allege widespread issues, stating that nearly 100 Somalis have been convicted or are under investigation for stealing $9 billion in U.S. government funds.
He described Omar’s district as “the number one terror recruiting capital of America,” citing Department of Justice data on terrorism-related convictions among Somali-Americans.
In response to criticisms of her community, Omar has pushed back in public statements.
In a November 24, 2025, Facebook video addressing Somali communities in Minnesota and across the U.S., Omar said: “Somalis are not terrorizing this nation. We are helping it thrive. Somalis have always seen as a fabric. Has seen themselves as a fabric of this nation.”
The video, posted on her official page, was part of a message of solidarity amid heightened scrutiny following the fraud indictments and reports of ISIS recruitment in the area.
Higbie dismissed Omar’s claims outright.
“No, they’re not. In fact, they’re getting convicted left and right in your district, Ilhan Omar, which is, by the way, the number one terror recruiting capital of America. You have almost 100 Somalis to date, and more under investigation for that are convicted stealing $9 billion of US government money that came from us. But when confronted with any of these types of criticism, the same people like Congresswoman Ilhan Omar turns around and then says stuff like this,” he said.
He then referenced another video clip from Omar, this one from a 2018 interview with Al Jazeera where she discussed domestic terrorism threats.
In the footage, Omar stated: “I would say our country should be more fearful of white men across our country because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country.”
The comment, made in the context of addressing Islamophobia and right-wing extremism, drew widespread backlash at the time and has been resurfaced by conservatives in recent debates.
Higbie countered with crime statistics, citing 2018 U.S. government data.
“That’s also not true at all. According to the US government, in the same year, she said that, which was 2018 black people, despite making up only 13% of the population, actually committed over 52% of the homicides white people representing 60% of the population. Ilhan only committed less than 45% of the homicides in this country. This is the same person calling you and I Islamophobic for saying things that are plain for everyone to see. Turns out, the number one driver of Islamophobia, and I don’t like that term, because it applies that I’m afraid of them, which I am not, but the driving reason is the fact that they are conducting most of the terror attacks, not speaking at school board meetings and being called a terrorist. I’m talking actual terror attacks most clearly in the last week,” Higbie continued.
He emphasized that recent terror incidents, including those in the past week as of his broadcast, reinforce his point.
Higbie argued that discomfort with these discussions stems from societal conditioning to avoid “uncomfortable truths” backed by data.
“I realize this is an uncomfortable conversation, because we have been so conditioned to not say uncomfortable truths, even when it’s based on data. And the left is, look, feel free to fact check any of my numbers. In fact, I dare you. I encourage you to but we can’t actually start solving problems till we address what the actual problem is. And the biggest avoidable problem in this country that we are facing is who we are letting in, from fiscal policy to dangers to whatever else. It’s not the biggest problem, but it is the easiest avoidable problem, yet our system refuses to address it, while Democrats also have the Department of Homeland Security shut down right now. By the way, Great job, guys,” he concluded.
WATCH:
Higbie’s monologue comes amid ongoing Republican calls for investigations into Omar’s ties to Somali groups and her criticism of U.S. foreign policy.
Omar has repeatedly denied allegations of anti-Americanism, framing her comments as advocacy for marginalized communities.
The Department of Homeland Security, referenced by Higbie, faced a partial shutdown in early 2026 due to budget disputes in Congress.
