NASCAR Driver Daniel Dye Suspended After Mocking IndyCar Racer David Malukas On Livestream

Daniel Dye, a NASCAR driver who competes in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series, has been indefinitely suspended by the auto racing sanctioning and operating company Tuesday after he mocked IndyCar racer David Malukas on a livestream. This is the second major penalty of Dye’s career.

Circulating on social media Tuesday, the footage shows Dye using voices that referenced the sexuality of Malukas, also mimicking the IndyCar driver.

In the Truck Series, Dye drives for Kaulig Racing, who also laid down a suspension. Dye has also been ordered by NASCAR to attend sensitivity training. (RELATED: Alabama’s Aden Holloway Arrested On Marijuana Charge Just Days Before March Madness)

Taking to social media, Dye issued an apology to Malukas, branding his actions as “careless.”

“I chose my words poorly and I understand why it upset people,” wrote Dye. “I’m sorry to anyone who was offended. That’s now I want to represent myself.”

“I have some close friends in the LBGT+ community who would never want to feel less of themselves because of what I said, and that’s exactly why I should hold myself to a higher standard.”

Dye stated that talks with the friends brought him to recognize “a true friend would know better than to act the way I did.”

A 24-year-old racer for Team Penske, Malukas consistently publishes social media photos with a girlfriend.
