Talk about thinking outside the box.
Carson Towt has concluded one career in sports, and is now about to start another just one week after the fact.
The ex-basketball player for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish inked a free agent deal Tuesday with the Indianapolis Colts, with the franchise planning on trying him out as a tight end. And though it sounds like a wacky idea, Indianapolis has been successful in the past doing something similar, transitioning ex-VCU hooper Mo Alie-Cox to football. Recently re-signing, Cox is coming into his ninth campaign, also as a tight end. (RELATED: ‘Absolutely F*cking Not’: Matt Leinart Calls Out Alma Mater USC For Disrespectful Request)
Leading the Fighting Irish in rebounding with 9.0 per game, Towt (6’8″, 250 lbs.) competed in his last contest for Notre Dame in the recent ACC tournament. However, with him no longer having any eligibility, he’s shifting his focus over to football despite never playing the sport.
Towt stated that he believes he can switch over to football because he has “an awareness of my physical gifts that were showcased on the basketball floor … I think this sport honors those things and my frame, how I developed as a player, kind of my play style and what I pride myself on,” per ESPN.

I love the creativity from the Colts, especially considering it’s already worked out for them before … do what ya gotta do.
