national renewal is impossible without rebuilding marriage

For more than a decade, the official story has been simple: the redefinition of marriage was ‘settled’, and anyone still defending the mother and father bond was clinging to the past. The UK was told that the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 closed the matter. America was told that Obergefell did the same in 2015. But reality has a way of humiliating confident slogans.

Something significant is happening in the United States. Not a sudden national conversion, and not a clean political victory, but a visible shift in what can be said out loud. The argument is moving away from adult autonomy and back towards what children are owed and what a nation requires if it is to endure. Britain should pay attention, because the same pressures are already here: a thinning birth rate, a deepening loneliness, and a growing state that tries to compensate for what only stable homes can supply.

For Christians, this moment should not produce panic, but clarity. The ‘arc of history’ does not belong to the zeitgeist. It belongs to the sovereign Lord. He is not surprised by rebellion, nor threatened by it. And when a culture finally begins to reap what it has sown, the church is not called to gloat but to speak the truth plainly and offer mercy freely.

In late 2025, an extraordinary line appeared in America’s national strategy thinking. The White House’s National Security Strategy explicitly tied long-term security to ‘growing numbers of strong, traditional families that raise healthy children’.
