Pelosi Draws Attention With Heated Trump Criticism at Capitol Plaque Ceremony Focused on January 6 [WATCH]

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke Wednesday during a plaque unveiling ceremony at the U.S. Capitol honoring law enforcement officers who responded on January 6, 2021, delivering remarks that referenced the events of that day and President Donald Trump, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The plaque, installed earlier this month, recognizes Capitol Police officers and others involved in responding to the events at the Capitol. Democratic lawmakers, including Senator Adam Schiff, joined Pelosi in speaking at the ceremony.

During her remarks, Pelosi discussed the role of law enforcement and reflected on the events of January 6, describing it as a moment that would be remembered by visitors to the Capitol.

“When people visit the Capitol, they will always see a tribute to the bravery, to the courage, to the patriotism, to the debt that we owe our law enforcement officers on that terrible day,” Pelosi said.

She also referenced President Trump while describing the events of that day.

“They fought that for the Congress of the United States at a time when a instant — an insurrection was incited by the president of the United States. Who could figure that that would ever happen?” Pelosi said.

Pelosi recounted experiences involving Capitol Police officers and staff during the incident, including references to former Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone.

“I remember Michael Fanone being attacked mer — un mercifully, getting a heart attack while it happens or a stroke, whatever, and his family having to live with that. Dunn protected my staff, my office was a target of all of this. Our staff had to go behind closed doors in the dark under tables with furniture pushed up to the door because they were banging on the door to get in to hurt them. I’ll never forgive them for the trauma they caused not only my staff but all the staff on Capitol Hill, these young idealistic people,” Pelosi said.

She also described being removed from the dais while presiding over proceedings that day.

“I remember being pulled off the podium. I was presiding because that was what we did. That day was the important – uh – day according to the Constitution that we would confirm the election of the president of the United States,” she said.

Pelosi continued, “And they pulled me from there, and I said I can handle this. I thought they thought we’d have some acting up, which we used to handle this. No, you can’t. You must leave immediately. My concern was about my own security because in protecting me, they might have to be hurt themselves, and I was so concerned about that.”

Footage released in June 2024 by the House Oversight Committee included Pelosi stating, “I take responsibility,” in reference to the events surrounding January 6.

Separately, reporting in June 2024 by John Solomon at Just the News stated that Pelosi’s top security aides received warnings about a potential breach at the Capitol the night before the protests.

Additional reporting indicated that both Pelosi and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser had been informed of security concerns prior to January 6 and declined the deployment of National Guard troops at the Capitol that day.

The report also stated that FBI officials led by Director Chris Wray did not notify the Trump administration or cabinet officials about concerns of potential violence ahead of the protests.

In a separate exchange last year, Pelosi responded to a reporter’s question about National Guard deployment.

“SHUT UP! I did not refuse the National Guard. The President didn’t send it. Why are you coming here with Republican talking points as if you are a serious journalist!” Pelosi said.
