Jury Sides with Rapper Afroman After Absurd Police Raid [WATCH]

Rapper Afroman secured a legal victory following a defamation lawsuit filed by sheriff’s deputies after he used footage from a 2022 police raid at his Ohio home in a music video, a case that drew national attention and sparked debate over accountability and free expression.

During a segment discussing the case, commentator Carl Higbie outlined the origins of the dispute, noting that deputies had conducted a raid based on suspicions that Afroman was holding hostages.

“Rapper. Afroman is celebrating a legal win after turning a wrongful police raid into what I think is probably the most hilarious payback ever,” Higbie said.

He added, “Back in 2022 deputies kicked in his door at his Ohio Home on the suspicion of him holding hostages.”

According to Higbie, the allegations proved unfounded. “Obviously it was all bogus and no charges were ever filed,” he said.

Afroman later incorporated surveillance footage from the raid into a music video, including scenes that drew attention to the behavior of officers during the search.

The video included a lyric referencing the incident.

“The Adams County Sheriff kicked down my door. Then I heard the glass spray. They found no kidnapping victims, just some lemon pound cake,” Afroman said in the clip.

Higbie described the response from law enforcement as unexpected. “The deputies weren’t laughing,” he said.

“They actually slapped him with a defamation lawsuit, claiming that he ruined their reputations.” He added, “It did kind of make the sheriff’s deputies look a little bit like a clown.”

The case proceeded to trial, where Afroman defended his actions and the use of the footage.

“Fast forward to March 2026. Afroman took the stand,” Higbie said.

He noted that the jury ultimately sided with the rapper.

“The jury delivered the ultimate verdict, not guilty.”

In an interview following the ruling, Afroman addressed the situation and the lawsuit.

“Yes, yes, yes,” he said when asked about the outcome.

He also commented on the reaction from law enforcement.

“God bless all police officers who have a sense of humor and they have stick thick skin,” Afroman said.

He added, “These guys showed some poor sportsmanship.”

Higbie pressed Afroman on his reaction to being sued over the song.

“What was your reaction when he sued you for it,” Higbie asked.

Afroman responded by expressing surprise at the decision.

“I honestly thought cops were tougher than that,” he said.

“I gave him more credit than I guess he was worth.”

He emphasized that the content of the song was not intended as a direct attack.

“I didn’t make a song like NWA. I didn’t say f the police,” Afroman said.

He added, “I sung about him wanting some of my mom’s lemon pound cake. I think that’s classy.”

Afroman also described the lawsuit as disproportionate to the situation.

“Under the circumstances that you kick in my door, you’re walking around my house with a pistol, and I crack a silly little joke,” he said.

He added, “That’s totally unsportsmanlike conduct.”

The rapper further alleged that deputies took money during the raid that has not been returned.

“They admit to my money being $400 short,” Afroman said.

He continued, “They have made no plans to this day to give me back my $400.”

Higbie expressed support for Afroman’s position and noted his own reaction to the case.

“I downloaded your whole album to support you, because I think it’s hilarious,” Higbie said. He added, “I hope these cops relax a little bit.”

Afroman concluded by reiterating his view that the incident reflected a lack of accountability.

“When you do wrong, you get chewed out a little bit,” he said.

“They made a mistake.”
