French authorities arrested three teenagers over an attempted bombing at the Bank of America headquarters in Paris.
Police patrolling the 8th arrondissement stopped the attempt shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday when they caught one suspect trying to light a homemade explosive device, ABC News reported. The explosive consisted of 650 grams of powder rigged to a pair of fuel-filled bottles held together with adhesive tape.
A second individual stood across the street and appeared to record the scene before fleeing as officers closed in, according to ABC News. Authorities detained two more suspects on Sunday, including the person believed to have filmed the attempt. All three are minors. The suspect caught at the scene told police he was from Senegal and claimed to be underage, CBS News reported. He said someone recruited him through Snapchat to carry out the bombing for roughly $692. French officials are still working to confirm his identity.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told BFM TV he believed the Middle East conflict motivated the attack, France 24 reported. A source close to the investigation described the plot to Agence France-Presse (AFP) as a realization of Iranian threats against American and Israeli interests across Europe.
The Paris incident follows a pattern seen in neighboring countries, according to France 24. Dutch authorities suspect Iran recruited four youths arrested in connection with a Rotterdam synagogue bombing. An obscure group with ties to Tehran also claimed an arson attack last week in London targeting volunteer ambulances operated by a Jewish organization.
France’s National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office launched a formal investigation into attempted arson tied to a terrorist operation, explosive device manufacturing and terrorist conspiracy, CBS News reported. Paris judicial police and the country’s domestic intelligence agency are also involved in the probe.
