‘A Certain Absurdity About All This’: Brit Hume Breaks Down What No Kings Protest Reveals About Today’s Politics

Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume said Monday that the recent No Kings Protest captured the intensity and absurdity of modern American politics.

Thousands of demonstrators surged through Washington, D.C., Saturday for the nationwide No Kings Day protests, targeting President Donald Trump and his administration. During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hume described the No Kings Day demonstrations as both striking and ironic, saying they reveal more about the passions driving American politics than any actual threat to democracy.

“There’s a certain absurdity about all of this, because for whatever you may say about Donald Trump and the fact that he strains continually against the restraints that are imposed on him by the fact that we have a democratic government or a democratic republic. He’s not trying to be a king. And it’s all kind of absurd,” Hume told host Bret Baier.

Hume said the No Kings Day protests showcase the intensity of opposition to Trump.

“It is a reflection, I think, of the fact that you can turn out these millions of people on these street protests. They represent a number of different causes. But what they mostly represent, Bret, is anti-Trump feeling. And it’s quite intense in this country, no doubt about it. I’m not saying it’s anything like a majority. It’s not. But it’s strongly felt,” Hume added.

Hume pointed out the irony of the No Kings Day protests, calling them a symbolic success. He noted that organizers have held three major demonstrations in under a year. (RELATED: Anti-Trump ‘No Kings’ Protests Supported By Socialist Orgs That Love Dictatorships)

“I think we’d have to count this as a great success, Bret. They’ve now had three of these no-kings demonstrations over the past, less than a year, I guess, now? And we don’t have any kings. So they won. It’s been a wonderful success,” Hume said.

Saturday saw the third nationwide “No Kings” rally, following earlier demonstrations in June and October 2025. Although the group behind the protests claims to resist authoritarianism in the U.S., several of its official partners have openly supported brutal communist governments overseas.

The group’s official partners include the Communist Party USA and the Democratic Socialists of America, both of which have publicly praised authoritarian regimes abroad. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson dismissed the demonstrations as little more than “Trump derangement therapy sessions.”
