Sophie Turner Injury Pauses ‘Tomb Raider’ Production as Filming Gets Temporarily Halted [WATCH]

Production on the upcoming live-action “Tomb Raider” series has been temporarily paused after Sophie Turner suffered an on-set injury, according to a statement from Amazon MGM Studios, as reported by Fox News.

Turner, who is preparing to portray Lara Croft in the series, experienced what was described as a minor injury during filming. The studio confirmed the pause in production in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.

“Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury,” a representative for Amazon MGM Studios said.

“As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”

Reports initially suggested the delay could extend for at least a month and possibly up to six months. However, Fox News Digital reported that the shutdown could be significantly shorter, with a timeline potentially as brief as two weeks.

The production halt comes after Turner spoke earlier this year about the demanding physical preparation required for the role.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Julia Cunningham Show,” Turner described an intensive training schedule that began the previous year.

“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” Turner said.

When asked about the physical challenges involved, Turner said she discovered ongoing issues during her training.

“I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape,” she said. “That’s what I’ve learned.”

Turner is widely known for her role in the HBO series Game of Thrones, and her casting as Lara Croft has drawn attention as the project moves forward under Prime Video.

In the days following her SiriusXM appearance, Prime Video released a first look at Turner in character as Lara Croft, generating strong reactions from viewers on social media platform X and Instagram.

“My God… she looks like she stepped out of the games,” one user wrote on X.

“Sophie Turner as Lara Croft is genuinely so striking,” another user wrote.

“I’ve got full faith this adaptation at Prime Video is going to be REALLY up my alley. I just can’t get over how phenomenal she looks.”

“OH MY GOD! SHE LOOKS PERFECT! I didn’t expected they would go with a look so classic!” another user commented on Instagram.

The “Tomb Raider” series marks a new adaptation of the popular video game franchise, with Turner stepping into the role of the iconic character Lara Croft.

Production is expected to resume once Turner has recovered and is cleared to return to filming.
