Around 9 a.m., law enforcement received information that Board was located inside an apartment in southeast Wichita. Authorities monitored the situation for several hours before initiating contact.
At approximately 11:57 a.m., Board and an acquaintance were seen leaving the apartment.
The two were traveling on scooters, heading south on Cypress from Mt. Vernon. Shortly after departing, the acquaintance separated from Board, who continued on alone.

SWAT officers, traveling in an unmarked vehicle, located Board near Cherry Creek Drive and moved in to apprehend him. According to the sheriff’s office, officers pulled alongside Board in an attempt to stop him.
Board then accelerated on his scooter, attempting to flee the area. Officers pursued and caught up with him, at which point they began issuing commands.
“Police, police, police, stop, you’re under arrest,” officers shouted, according to the sheriff’s office.
Board continued moving before driving his scooter into a front yard.
Body camera footage later reviewed by investigators showed that he lost control and fell to the ground.
Within moments of falling, the situation escalated. Authorities said that after hitting the ground, Board reached into his waistband and pulled out a loaded .380-caliber handgun.
He then pointed the weapon at one of the officers on scene.
Officials stated that approximately five seconds after Board fell, an officer discharged his firearm, striking Board multiple times.
Emergency responders from Sedgwick County EMS and the Wichita Fire Department were called to the scene and began providing medical care. Despite those efforts, Board died from his injuries at the scene.
Investigators confirmed that Board did not fire his weapon during the encounter.
However, prior to the incident, Wichita police said they had received information indicating that Board had threatened to engage in a shootout if confronted by law enforcement.
The sheriff’s office released portions of body camera video showing the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, including Board’s fall and subsequent actions.
Authorities have not released the identity of the officer involved in the shooting.
The case remains under investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
The incident followed several hours of surveillance and coordination by law enforcement, beginning with the initial report of Board’s location earlier that morning and culminating in the attempted arrest and confrontation.
Officials have not indicated whether any additional individuals were involved beyond the acquaintance who separated from Board earlier in the day.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office continues to review evidence, including body camera footage and witness accounts, as part of its ongoing investigation into the events surrounding the shooting.
