Giants’ Tony Vitello Sees His First MLB Ejection Just Before San Francisco Chokefest

Welcome to Major League Baseball, Tony Vitello!

For years, the San Francisco Giants rookie manager pumped spirit into the college baseball program of the Tennessee Volunteers, and during Sunday’s home game against the New York Mets, he transitioned that same spirit into the professional game. And it happened to earn him his first ejection ever of his MLB career.

Vitello’s first ejection came only 10 games into the 2026 season. (RELATED: Nationals Choose Epic, Beer Guzzling Way To Celebrate Franchise’s 21st Birthday)

In the seventh inning, the Giants were holding on to a 2-1 advantage. At one point, designated hitter Jerar Encarnación hit a soft knock that bounced in the direction of the mound. Huascar Brazoban, a relief pitcher for the Mets, fielded the weak hit, but was unable to toss Encarnación out.

That’s when first base umpire Dave Rackley made an appearance, however, actually ruling Encarnacion out for interference, this because of the DH sprinting within the lane. Needless to say, Vitello wasn’t happy about the call whatsoever, shooting out of the dugout and putting a big ol’ fat target on Rackley.

The problem for Vitello was that he took things just a bit too far, going chest-to-chest with the ump and blasting him with profanity. Yeah … it didn’t take much longer after that for the official to slap Vitello with the ejection.

And to make matters worse for the Giants, they completely self-destructed after the fact, ultimately losing 5-2 to the Mets in a chokefest.
