A 43-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a Portland, Oregon home and attempting to assault a mother while she was holding her infant, according to police.
Judson Defir was taken into custody on March 15 following a series of incidents that investigators say unfolded over a short period of time in a residential neighborhood.
Authorities said Defir allegedly entered the family’s home during the middle of the day and went upstairs after announcing his presence.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Oregon Live, Defir called out, “Honey, I’m here,” before moving through the home.

Upstairs, a mother was holding her 10-month-old baby while working, with her 3-year-old child nearby.
Police allege Defir entered the room and forced the woman onto a bed while she was still holding the infant.
During the encounter, the affidavit states that the suspect pinned the woman face down.
The woman was able to persuade him to allow her to place the baby in a crib.

After being released, the woman ran from the room, barricaded herself in another area of the home using a bookcase, and called for help, according to investigators.
Her husband, who had been outside working in the yard, heard her and went inside the home.
By the time he reached the interior of the house, authorities said Defir had already fled the scene.
Police said the suspect left damage behind during the incident.
Investigators say the home invasion was not an isolated incident. Just minutes earlier, Defir allegedly entered a nearby church where he groped a woman.
Police said he then left the church and approached two other women walking in the neighborhood before ultimately entering the residence.
Portland Police Chief Bob Day addressed the incidents in a statement, saying, “Our thoughts are with the women who experienced these frightening incidents. We are grateful for their courage in coming forward. I also want to recognize the swift and coordinated response of our patrol officers and detectives, whose quick actions helped apprehend the suspect and bring a sense of safety back to the neighborhood.”
Defir denied the allegations when speaking with investigators.
According to the affidavit, he claimed he “accidentally bumped into” the mother inside the home.
He also told police that he had used methamphetamine earlier in the day before attending a pancake breakfast at a neighborhood church, according to investigators.
Defir was arrested later that same day. Authorities said he is facing charges that include attempted rape, kidnapping, and additional outstanding warrants.
Police indicated that further charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
Court records obtained by Oregon Live show Defir has been arrested more than a dozen times over the past 25 years.
His prior arrests include charges such as fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence.
Records also indicate previous incidents involving disruptive behavior, including an arrest for yelling at two young girls in a park and another case in which he was found lying naked in a driveway while intoxicated.
Defir is currently being held without bail as the case moves forward.
