President Trump took umbrage Thursday at a reporter who told him that Americans are seeing prices rise and that their bills are more expensive.
Mr. Trump accused the reporter of not being truthful and noted that gas prices in several states were “way down” and, in a couple of states on Wednesday, hit “$1.98” per gallon.
Mr. Trump said, “Before I got here…the press, the fake news like you, the fake news is screaming at me, like about eggs.”
“The price of groceries are substantially down,” he said. “The price of eggs. You know, when I came in, [the press] hit me with eggs. I just got there.”
He continued, “They said, you won’t have eggs for Easter, which is coming up. Happy Easter, everybody. … And now eggs are all over the place, and the price went down 92% and our Commissioner of Agriculture, Brooke [Rollins], has done a fantastic job.”
According to AAA, as spring break travel comes to a close, gas prices nationwide have declined five cents per gallon since last week.
“Softer demand is fueling this downward trend, and with crude as low as it’s been in a few years, drivers may continue to see lower pump prices as summer approaches,” AAA said on its website.
As of Thursday, the average price of regular gasoline nationwide was $3.17 at the pump. One year ago, it was $3.66.
A dozen eggs were down to $3.13 Thursday. That is down from a high of just over $8 in early March, according to tradingeconomincs.com.
