Lil Wayne Describes His Unique Experience With Donald Trump

Lil Wayne shared details of his incredibly unique encounter with Donald Trump in an April 17 interview with Rolling Stone.

The famous rapper took a spur-of-the-moment photograph with President Trump in Florida in October 2020, and it captured an interaction with the president that few others can lay claim to. Lil Wayne told the outlet that Trump was “an asshole” of a wisecracker who left him laughing hysterically throughout the day.

“Ain’t take nothing serious,” he said of the experience. “Literally in there saying shit like, ‘What do we have to do again? Shit, I forgot.’”

Lil Wayne said Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, greeted him before Trump joined them and said the president wanted to pardon him on federal gun charges that were then looming. Lil Wayne’s jet was raided in December 2019 and agents discovered a loaded gold-plated .45 caliber handgun. The famous artist said he didn’t even know who Kushner was at the time, but the day took an unexpectedly pleasant turn.

The star discovered Kushner was a fan of his music and advocated for the pardon.

“He’s naming the exams that he crammed [to while listening to me], that I helped him,” Wayne recalled, according to Rolling Stone.

“He was like, ‘I’m not about to watch my hero go to jail for this,’” he said.

Officials formally charged Wayne one month later and he pleaded guilty in December 2020. Trump issued a pardon for the rapper in January 2021.

Lil Wayne told Rolling Stone he saw his attorney, Bradford Cohen, and Trump “powwowing” and recalled them engaging in humorous banter. Cohen was once a contestant on “The Apprentice.”

Lil Wayne said that’s when the photo opportunity presented itself.

“There was some people in there like, ‘Y’all should take a picture.’ He didn’t even ask for a picture,” he told Rolling Stone.

The rapper said Trump spoke jokingly again, referencing others present. “These motherfuckers asking me for fucking pictures all fucking day, man. Can we please?” he said.

“I said, ‘It’s the president. OK.’ [Trump] was like, ‘Thank you,’” Wayne said. (RELATED: Wrestling Superstar Reveals Support For Trump, And The Internet Isn’t Happy)

The artist addressed those who criticized his decision to take a photo with Trump. “I don’t care about no backlash for nothing I do,” he told Rolling Stone. “My Mama woulda been mad if I ain’t smile. That might have been the only backlash I would have worried about.”

Wayne went on to explain why he didn’t endorse Trump in the last election cycle despite his positive experience with him.

“You probably don’t want that,’ because I don’t know what’s going on,” he admitted. “I can tell you who won the last game, but I can’t really … you know what I mean?”
