Dr. Oz Swearing-In Ceremony Halts After Girl Faints In Oval Office

Dr. Mehmet Oz’s swearing in as administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Oval Office ended abruptly on Friday after a young girl fainted.

Oz’s swearing in took place before a question-and-answer session with President Donald Trump, according to the New York Post.

Trump was in the middle of answering a question about nuclear weapons when a commotion happened off camera. One woman, reportedly one of Oz’s daughters, could be heard saying, “Philo fainted, Philo fainted. Dad, go!” PEOPLE reported.

Philomena, 11, is one of Oz’s granddaughters, the outlet noted.

A few people, including Oz, rushed over as a woman ushered out the press, stating, “Press, out. Out, press.”

“Everybody out!” a White House aide said. (RELATED: ‘Did I At Least Look Cool?’: Video Shows Trump Adviser Faint, Collapse Over Lectern At Republican Event)

People can be seen filing out of the room as Trump walks over. Videos circulating on X show a woman holding onto Philomena’s face as people left the Oval Office.

Oz was sworn in by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., according to PEOPLE. Oz was joined by his wife Lisa, daughters Arabella, Zoe and Daphne, and his son Oliver. Oz’s grandchildren also attended the ceremony.

“A minor family member fainted during Dr. Oz’s swearing in ceremony in the Oval Office,” the White House said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We are happy to say she is okay.”

Trump tapped Oz to lead CMS in November 2024 after the doctor, known for his TV program “The Dr. Oz Show,” unsuccessfully ran for a Senate position in Pennsylvania in 2022.

Oz was confirmed to the role in a 53-45 Senate vote on April 3.
