Police remove father of slain teen Austin Metcalf when he shows up at alleged killer’s presser, called ‘disrespectful’

Police were called to teen suspect Karmelo Anthony’s press conference Thursday in Dallas after the father of the boy he allegedly maliciously killed showed up.

Set to start at 11:00 am at the headquarters of the Next Generation Action Network, the advocacy group representing Anthony, the press conference was delayed after Jeff Metcalf, whose son Austin was stabbed to death in the heart, unexpectedly arrived.

“The Next Generation Action Network called Dallas police to have him removed,” according to local station WFAA. “Eventually, the building’s owner asked Metcalf to leave and multiple police officers escorted him out of the building.”

But not before Dominique Alexander, the Next Generation Action Network’s president, shamed Metcalf for having shown up at the press conference of his son’s alleged killer.

“All I’m going to say so it don’t be asked later, is that was disrespectful and just shows you all the character,” Alexander said. “He was not invited. He knows that it’s inappropriate to be near this family. But he did it. And so I say to people, actions speak louder than words.”

“What we’ve seen at the beginning of this press conference, of [the] father being at this press conference, these are my words, don’t call me about it, is a disrespect to the dignity of his son,” he added.

FYI, according to the Dallas Observer, Alexander is also “a Black Lives Matter protest organizer and minister with a checkered past, including time served in prison for injuring a child.”

Once Metcalf was gone, the press conference began with Alexander complaining about “disinformation” and threats.

“From the very beginning, there was intentional disinformation surrounding the fund created in the support of the Anthony family,” he said, referencing the Anthony family’s online fundraiser. “Since this tragedy unfolded, the Anthony family has been subject to unimaginable amount[s] of hate, racism, threats to their safety.”

“People have sat outside their house, sent objects delivered to their door, publicly harassed, online and in person. This is not just about Karmelo. It’s about the family who dare to stand and demand justice and return and receive ugliness that racism in this country still brings,” he added.

Alexander also accused Metcalf’s appearance at the press conference of being “a disrespect to the dignity of his son.”

Anthony’s mother later echoed some of these same complaints.

“Whatever you think what happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boys, my three younger children, my husband and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about,” she said.

“The lies and false accusations that have been said about us, especially over the past week, has been overwhelming. The lies and their amplification put my family in danger, as well as everyone in our community, everyone involved in an investigation from the police, the attorneys and the court here,” she added.

The remarks from Alexander and Anthony’s mother prompted massive backlash on social media, especially from those disturbed over reports that Anthony’s family has already spent the money raised online on a lavish mansion and car.

Anthony’s mother, for her part, dismissed the reports about the family wasting their fundraiser money.
