The Trump administration has revoked the student visas of 13 international students at Oregon State University (OSU), just weeks after taking similar action at the University of Oregon.
The Department of Homeland Security has not publicly released the reasons for the visa terminations, but the timing follows a broader federal crackdown on student visa holders reportedly involved in anti-American and anti-Semitic activity tied to recent campus protests over Gaza.
OSU spokesperson Rob Odom confirmed the visa revocations in a statement to The Corvallis Gazette-Times, saying the university was surprised by the abrupt federal action.

“While immigration records are terminated from time to time for different reasons, the suddenness of these federal agency-initiated actions nationally has led us to review student immigration records even more frequently so that we can provide support to those impacted,” Odom said.
In response to the federal decision, OSU has announced it will join a legal challenge against the administration brought by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), aligning itself with opposition to what the plaintiffs argue are politically motivated visa revocations.
Meanwhile, Oregon residents face an array of proposed new taxes from the Democrat-led state legislature.
According to the Oregon Taxpayers Association, over 14 tax increases are under consideration, including:
- A 125% increase in the wage tax
- A new vehicle delivery charge
- A 50% increase in the gas tax
- A new tire tax
- A 100% hike in DMV fees
- A weight-and-mile tax on truckers
- An electric vehicle (EV) road use charge
- A 63% increase in the bicycle tax
- A proposed car tax and other miscellaneous increases

The collection of proposed tax hikes has drawn criticism from taxpayers across the state, who argue the increases come at a time of already high living costs and inflation.
Critics point out the growing burden placed on working-class Oregonians while the state simultaneously pursues progressive spending priorities.
One such progressive policy was recently adopted by the Corvallis City Council, which voted to designate the city as a sanctuary for “transgender, intersex, and gender diverse people.”

The resolution, reportedly the first of its kind in Oregon, outlines a series of commitments to support individuals who identify across a range of gender categories.
According to the city’s adopted language, Corvallis will “investigate instances of violence or discrimination committed against transgender, intersex and gender-diverse people and ensure that those communities have equal access to health care, housing, education and employment.”
The resolution also supports the availability of gender-affirming treatments for minors, while opposing any attempts to offer therapies aimed at affirming an individual’s birth sex—commonly referred to as “conversion therapy.”
Supporters of the measure describe it as a response to rising concerns among gender-diverse individuals.

Opponents argue it reinforces one-sided medical and social policies without allowing families or children alternative perspectives or treatments.
The sanctuary designation follows a growing trend among progressive municipalities nationwide to codify gender identity protections, particularly in states where state-level legislation has sparked debate over parental rights and youth medical decisions.
As Oregon’s state government weighs expansive new tax policies, and its local governments pursue landmark social initiatives, the Trump administration’s renewed focus on visa enforcement adds a federal layer to what has become an increasingly polarized landscape in the Pacific Northwest.
