DNC vice chair David Hogg sets sights on ‘democracy’ in bizarre analysis

Democratic National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg appears to be breaking from the party’s talking points, condemning “democracy” and blaming it for things like school shootings and climate change.

For nearly the entire 2024 presidential race, Democrats ran to every available microphone to call President Donald Trump a threat to “democracy.” Their platform seemed to be entirely based on preserving “democracy” without much regard for what the average American was experiencing at the time. While Trump addressed the issues that mattered to voters, such as inflation, immigration and trade disparities, Democrats offered no real solutions or policy positions. This led to a landslide win for the Republican candidate in November, and renewed crowing about saving “democracy” from the left.

But now that line of attack appears to be changing, as Hogg spoke to CBS News to complain that “democracy” is the root of many problems in America.

“We go out there, as Democrats, all the time and say ‘Democracy is the most important thing. We have to defend democracy,’” Hogg said. “We fail to acknowledge that this generation, democracy is what put us through school shooter drill and school shootings. It’s what put us through the climate crisis and so much more.”

“What we have to do is prove that democracy matters by standing up to the special interests that are killing the American dream and making our young people lose faith, not only in our party, but the future of this country,” he added.
