The 75-year-old coach, who has been away from team duties since suffering a stroke in November, was said to be “alert and talking” at the time of the incident.

Officials responded to a call at approximately 8:20 p.m. local time regarding an elderly individual who had fainted at a steakhouse.

Emergency responders confirmed the person was transported to a nearby hospital with what was described as a non-life-threatening injury or illness.

Popovich had reportedly been dining at the establishment for about two hours prior to the medical event.

Sources later told TMZ Sports that the coach has since been discharged from the hospital and is now back home recovering.

Popovich has been on medical leave from the Spurs organization since suffering a stroke on November 2, shortly before the team was scheduled to play the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Assistant head coach Mitch Johnson has been leading the team in Popovich’s absence.

A few weeks after the stroke, Popovich issued a public update about his condition.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “This has certainly been an unexpected six weeks for my family and me. As we work together on my recovery, I want to take a moment to share that the outpouring of support we’ve received during this time has been truly overwhelming in the best possible way.”

Popovich added, “While I wish I could get back to each one of you, for now, let me say that my family and I are forever grateful. We’re thankful for our wonderful community, the entire Spurs organization, and our family and friends.”

Popovich has served as head coach of the Spurs since 1996, making him the longest-tenured coach in NBA history. Under his leadership, the Spurs have won five NBA championships and secured 1,338 regular-season victories, the most by any coach in league history.

Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished coaches in professional basketball, Popovich has also served as head coach of the U.S. men’s national basketball team and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.

The Spurs organization has not released an official statement regarding Tuesday night’s incident. No further updates on Popovich’s condition or potential return to coaching duties have been provided as of Wednesday morning.

Popovich’s health remains a topic of interest for fans and the broader basketball community, given his legacy and impact on the sport. Spurs players and coaching staff have continued to express support for their longtime coach as he focuses on recovery.
